Adele fans find out 'mid-flight' Vegas gig off after spending £20k on tickets and travel

Heartbroken Adele fans have aired their frustration online, after the devastated singer cancelled her Las Vegas residency at the eleventh hour on Thursday night.

Many who had tickets for the singer's first show at Caesar's Palace on Friday night have fumed on social media regarding the last-minute cancellation - having spent thousands on non-refundable flights and hotel rooms.

Some fans were already on the plane to Las Vegas when they discovered the singer would be a no-show on stage this weekend - speaking of their "anger" after hearing the news.

In an emotional video, shared just 24 hours before opening night, Adele, 33, explained how Covid-related issues had forced her to pull the plug on all of her upcoming performances on her Las Vegas tour.

"Half my team, half my crew are hit by Covid, they still are and it's been impossible to finish the show and I can't give you what I have right now and I'm gutted," the mum-of-one confessed in the teary video shared online.

Within minutes of the Someone Like You singer breaking the sad news, many went online to point out it was too late to cancel travel plans.

Gillian Rowland-Kain, 32, was already on her way over to Las Vegas from New York when she discovered via social media Adele had called off Friday night's show.

"I was furious that Adele waited so last minute to make this call. I recognise it's not a call any artist wants to make but she would've known yesterday that the show wouldn't be ready by tomorrow," she told the MailOnline.

"Her lack of notice is astounding. I'm angry and frustrated."

Another fan told the publication how he had spent $445 on each ticket, $1,600 on flights and hotel as well as $100 on Covid tests in order to see the star on her opening night.

"I know I will not be able to get off of work to come back, I know I wouldn't be able to afford to come back. This trip has been a collection of Christmas and birthday gifts plus saving for myself," Thomas Wright explained when revealing he had flown all the way from South Carolina for the now-axed gig.

Fans were equally as mad online - with many pointing out just how much multi-millionaire Adele has cost fans with such a last-minute cancellation.

"The people with first weekend show tickets may not be able to afford the time or money to reschedule something like this," one Twitter user pointed out, as many revealed they had already begun to arrive in Las Vegas for the first show.

Some super fans of the Grammy award-winning singer had not only shelled out for flights and accommodation to see the star, but even purchased tickets for the show for an eye-watering resale price - with some even changing hands for up to £20,000.

"Super bummed that Adele has postponed all of her shows in Las Vegas. I've already spent $1200 between airfare, hotel, and the concert tickets. Not to mention vacation time from work," one disappointed fan shared online as the news of the cancellation broke.

Another explained directly to Adele - who is said to be worth an estimated $220million - how many won't be able to afford to see a rescheduled performance.

"This breaks my heart, for you and for me. I know how hard it is to put on a show, especially with a pandemic," they began their tweet to the star.

"But it’s also hard to save enough money, to get time off work from a hospital, that is short staffed, book a flight and hotel, fly in two days early and find out 30 hrs before the show, when we are already here, that the reason we came for is not going to happen.

One British fan even posted a snap from outside Caesar's Palace just as it was announced the show would not be going ahead.

Captioning the picture, he tweeted: "Christmas gift gone pear shaped as my wife and daughter are on the way to meet me in Vegas and unfortunately Adele has had to cancel."

Some fans were more sympathetic towards the singer and the situation.

Sharing a couple of snaps from outside where the London-born star should have been performing on Friday night, they tweeted: "I shot my shot I landed in Las Vegas to discover tomorrow’s Adele concert was cancelled like I heard was probably going to happen. These tickets will wait for another day.

"But I’m here! I still adore Adele. Life is short & precious, & I’m glad I at least tried."

In her emotional video on Thursday, a visibly upset Adele stressed that she had "tried absolutely everything" she could to try make sure the shows went ahead before cancelling.

"I'm sorry it's so last minute, we've been awake for over 30 hours now trying to figure it out and we've run out of time and I'm so upset and I'm really embarrassed," she told her heartbroken fans.

"I'm so sorry to everyone that's travelled again, I'm really really sorry.

"We're on it we're going to reschedule all of the dates and I'm going to finish the show and get it to where it's supposed to be for you."

The singer filmed the tearful video in her hotel room before sharing it across her social media platforms - promising fans further updates.

"All dates will be rescheduled, more info coming soon," the singing sensation captioned the emotional clip online.
