If there’s one thing Brits take seriously, it’s how to make a cup of tea.

At least, that seemed to be the case back in 2015, when Adele got caught in an unexpected controversy regarding her tea-making abilities.

Tea lovers were shocked when the singer’s hit music video Hello showed a clip of Adele pouring boiling water into her cup before dropping the teabag in. Fans were in total disbelief over what they believed was just a downright horrifying way to make tea; so much so that it sparked an internet outcry that launched #BoycottAdele. British fans were especially left in despair.

“@Adele great new song and all, but you put water in the cup first and THEN the tea bag? Heathen! #britishproblems #AdeleHello,” one fan tweeted.

“Finally just watched #AdeleHello. THE WATER GOES IN *AFTER* THE TEA BAG, ADELE! *AFTER!*,” read another tweet.

Despite the slow tempo music video showing a sad Adele mending her broken heart, fans were not letting the star off the hook. Well, nearly six years later, Adele is finally setting the record straight about her tea scandal.

Not only did Adele share her step-by-step process on how she prepares her tea, but she actually demonstrated it during an interview with British Vogue.

Ahead of her upcoming album, 30, Adele took “the ultimate British taste test” with the publication which included having classic British dishes (including pickled eggs, cockles, kippers, and more) and, of course, a cup of tea to wash it all down with.

“I’m gonna show you how I like my cups of tea, which, contrary to the Hello video, I didn’t prepare that when I was filming it, someone else did,” Adele says at the start of the clip before getting into her method.

She added: “I like to brew the tea bag, add a bit of sugar, bit of milk, stir it, stir it, stir it, ring it out, put it wherever you want.”

Well, there you have it, folks, Adele can in fact make a cup of tea properly. Perhaps it was best Adele cleared it up now so you can listen to 30 with zero animosity towards the star.
