Adele at centre of bitter war of words between Alan Carr and his ex-husband

Singer Adele is at the centre of a bitter war of words between comedian Alan Carr and his ex-husband Paul Drayton.

The former couple announced their decision to split in January 2022 after three years of marriage following a tough year which saw Paul struggling in his battle against alcohol addiction.

Alan and Paul had married for three years, but had been together for 13 years when they announced they had made the decision "jointly and amicably".

However, over a year later the two are now embroiled in a messy spat over comments made about their divorce and who got to stay friends with superstar singer Adele.

It comes after Chattyman Alan, 47, discussed their split during an episode of 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown on Channel 4 in August 2022.

He quipped: "I’ve gone through a really spiteful, messy divorce.

“My ex’s lawyer said take half of everything, look at that.

“But not just that, household items. Look at that, half a kettle, half a toaster, half a fondue set. All the cheese goes all over the floor.

“Obviously, people want to know about . . . we’ve divvied up our celebrity friends. I get custody of Adele. Paul gets Gok at the weekends. We’re still friends. I know he’s taken half of everything. But the one thing he can’t take is my dignity. Am I right?”

And now Paul, 51, has hit back at his ex admitting the comments upset him and to insist that he is actually better friends with Adele.

Speaking to The Sun, he revealed Alan's insinuations that he wanted half of everything and was greedy during the divorce were not true and greatly upset him and his mum.

He then added: "And of course Adele didn’t cut me off. Some of Alan’s friends are no longer speaking to me, which I totally understand as it’s difficult for them.

“But Adele and I have always been close and that’s not going to change."

Alan and Paul had an amazing start to married life, as megastar Adele organised their big day as well as paying for it and officiating the wedding.

The comedian and the chart-topping singer have been close friends since they met in 2008 and he had been open about his desire for her to sing at the wedding.

Speaking on The One Show, Alan said: "We’ve known her for ages, and when we told her we were getting married she said, 'Can I please plan the whole day for you?'

"She did it all at her house. So, we got in there, and there is a grand piano with a man playing Ordinary People.

"Then she sang with our first dance, it was absolutely amazing. I can never repay her, she’s a one-off as we all know."

Alan and Paul's relationship deteriorated during the pandemic with the party planner and actor struggling to manage his addiction to alcohol.

Paul headed into therapy and rehab after he went public with his booze battle by posting a picture of his black eye following a drinking binge.

He shared the now-deleted Instagram post in August 2021 and sparked concern from his followers as he posted a picture of himself with the injury, which he initially joked was due to an argument with husband Alan.

Paul then apologised and clarified how he got the black eye, and confessed he had punched himself in the face during a drunken binge.

"When I arrived back home from Wales, Paul was covered in scratches and bruises from a drinking binge," Alan explained in a statement at the time.

"We are now working together to get the help he needs to get better which is our number one priority right now."

The Mirror has contacted reps for Adele and Alan Carr for comment.
