An Adelaide court has heard further assault charges are likely to be laid against a mother charged with trying to kill her two sons.
Megan Jayne Somerville, 35, faced the Elizabeth Magistrates Court via video link on Monday.
The police prosecutor told the court Ms Somerville would be charged with two counts of aggravated assault but they had not yet been laid.
Ms Somerville was remanded in custody last week charged with the attempted murder of her two boys, aged three and eight.
Police have alleged Ms Somerville stopped her car on the North-South Motorway at Wingfield last week, got out with her two sons and started assaulting them with a knife.
She was disarmed by a member of the public and detained until police arrived.
The two children were taken to the Women's and Children's Hospital in a critical condition.
Police later said the children were in a stable condition and expected to recover.
"If this man hadn't stopped, I'm sure the situation would have been much worse," Superintendent Selena Dinning said last week.
The court previously heard that Ms Somerville's mental health would be a factor in the case.
The matter returns to court in October.
