An Adelaide man accused of taking steps to manufacture explosives has been remanded in custody.
Dean Anthony Edwards appeared briefly in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court via video link this afternoon after the police bomb squad raided his Direk home in Adelaide's north on Wednesday.
The 60-year-old was arrested and charged after police allegedly found instructions, precursor chemicals and equipment that could be used for manufacturing explosives.
The duty solicitor did not make a bail application on Mr Edwards' behalf.
The prosecution asked for the next court date to be set for April 2023 so investigators could examine the chemicals allegedly found at the home, but Magistrate Justin Wickens questioned why such a long delay was needed.
The prosecution told the court there was "quite a large amount of chemicals and equipment" to process and analyse.
"A bomb expert says this is a complex case," a prosecutor said.
Magistrate Wickens instead gave police 14 weeks, setting the next court date for December 7.
'No Information'
Neighbours on the same street were told to remain indoors as Star Group officers raided the property.
John Rallos said they were not given much information.
"I saw the bomb squad come in as well and guys with — what are the suits — the hazard suits and, yeah, that's pretty much it, and told us told me not to come out," he said.
"I was thinking there was a murder or something like that because I did see some mats on the floor and I was like I think it might be a dead body.
"I didn't think they were going to let me in at all, I think they [police] were going to tell me to go out and go somewhere else but they let me in and then told me not to come out."
