The important and "amazing" work of a group supporting people affected by addiction has been honoured during a link-up with a sister organisation.
Members of North Lanarkshire Recovery Community were joined by friends in recovery from Borders Recovery Community to receive the Recoverist Flag.
Also in attendance at the event in Motherwell's Forgewood Community centre were representatives of the team from Scottish Recovery Consortium, who came up with the idea of passing a Recoverist Flag around recovery communities across Scotland to showcase the work being carried out.
Kerryanne Clarke, team leader of North Lanarkshire Recovery Community, told Lanarkshire Live : “It is vital that we highlight the amazing work being done throughout Scotland to make recovery visible and possible.
"Within North Lanarkshire, we have five recovery cafes, recovery walks, street soccer, yoga and other activities, and we are proof that people do recovery from addictions.
"We were honoured to be the first community in Scotland to be given the Recoverist Flag and to showcase the fantastic work here in North Lanarkshire, we wish the flag well on its journey to Borders Recovery Community and throughout Scotland."
North Lanarkshire Recovery Community officially launched last July after a 12-month delay due to the pandemic and has helped hundreds of people affected by addiction, including family members.
The organisation is an “inclusive and non-judgemental community committed to empowering people in recovery”.
Describing the types of services on offer from the organisation, Becky Wood, recovery development team leader, said: “As well as providing support, our recovery cafes act as a doorstep to people to come along and see what we do. Tea, coffee and food is served and our staff are on hand to converse with.
“We also run a fishing group, Recovery Ramblers, with trained walk leaders through the Paths For All scheme, and other outdoor activities.
“We have peer support too and are involved in addiction recovery nationally. People in our community are well versed on the political stance on recovery.
“This is a real grassroots organisation and we are an inclusive and non-judgemental community committed to empowering people in recovery.
“Anyone with addictive behaviour is welcome to our group; we look at people’s physical and mental wellbeing and also focus on socialisation, in terms of getting people back into the community.
“All of this is done through having fun, being there for people and building friendships.”
