Tottenham are yet to push through a move for Adama Traore with the Wolves winger expected to travel with his current squad for their Premier League match against Brentford.
football.london understands that talks have been continuing between the two clubs with the small gap in valuation narrowing but they are yet to reach their final stages of the transfer for the 25-year-old, who has a big admirer in Tottenham's managing director of football Fabio Paratici.
The Italian tried to sign Traore from Wolves when he was at Juventus and was interested in bringing him to Spurs last summer after he took on his new role in north London in July.
Paratici also has a strong relationship with super agent Jorge Mendes, who represents Traore, the two men having worked together on the huge deal that took Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid to Juventus in 2018.
Spurs have identified Traore as a potential right wing-back for Antonio Conte to convert, as he did with Victor Moses when he won the Premier League title with Chelsea, with the head coach looking for more attacking thrust down that flank.
Wolves are understood to be looking for £20m for the Spain international, who has one goal from his 22 appearances this season, and there is a confidence within both clubs that the deal will eventually be concluded for the winger, who is believed to be keen on the move to N17.
Traore's contract has just 18 months left to run on it and there has been little indication that he is willing to extend his stay at Wolves.
While talks are expected to eventually progress to their conclusion in the days ahead, at the moment they are not done and Traore is set to travel with his Wolves team-mates for their match at Brentford on Saturday.
Wolves boss Bruno Lage said of Traore on Friday: "We have a top player with us, a lovely guy. Sometimes it’s about business. I remember how much Tottenham protected Harry Kane at the beginning of the season.
"And we will protect our player because we believe a lot in Adama. That is business. It’s not my concern. But I will protect my players. The way they work, the value for me is very high."
He added: "I don’t see any difference in his behaviour, his mentality, the way he works. So I’m happy with him. He continues to be the same player.
"He just has one more year left. The club talk with him and he talks with them and they will decide the future. I’m happy with him, it’s the only thing I can say. He’s focused, he’s ready.
"My attention and focus is every time on the next game and I don’t think about if Adama stays with us or not. For now, he’s with us so I’m preparing the game with him."
Paratici could have a busy end to the month on top of trying to wrap up the Traore deal, having also tied up a new two-year deal for Spurs captain Hugo Lloris.
Conte has also asked for a central midfielder while the club would ideally also like to bring in another striker to provide support for Harry Kane before the transfer deadline.
At the same time, Paratici is working on moving players out of the door, with Dele Alli believed to be interesting Newcastle United and Everton.
PSG have also shown an interest in Tottenham's club record signing Tanguy Ndombele, who has been training alone in recent days and not included in Conte's matchday squads.
Defenders Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga have also been garnering interest from clubs at home and abroad.
Matt Doherty has been linked with heading out of the exit door, although he could start for Spurs on Sunday against Chelsea if Emerson Royal cannot shake off an injury he played with during the win at Leicester City on Wednesday night.
