Adam Scott's PGA Tour role with Rory McIlroy amid LIV Golf threat branded "waste of time"

Adam Scott's new role on the PGA Tour Player Advisory Council [PAC] alongside Rory Mcilroy has been labelled a "colossal waste of time" by former star Paul Azinger.

Scott's name was heavily linked with a move to LIV Golf due to his Australian connections with CEO Greg Norman. His compatriots Marc Leishmann and Matt Jones have all made the Saudi switch, as well as Open champion Cameron Smith. One man who has not joined the Australian exodus is Scott though.

Instead the 2013 Masters champion's loyalty to LIV's main rival has been awarded, having been appointed on the Tour's 16-man council.

Scott discussed his new role at last week's Sony Open, where the 42-year-old secured a tie for 21st at Waiʻalae Country Club in Hawaii. Distancing himself away from the drama of golf's ongoing civil war, he said: "I'm more interested in what the future of the tour looks like.

"I convinced myself that it was worth diving into the PAC to see what was going on." Scott joins some stellar names on the [PAC] with McIlroy and Tiger Woods both members. Azinger - who won 12 PGA Tour titles and captained the USA to Ryder Cup victory in 2008 - is less than convinced.

The 63-year-old himself spent 13 years on the council, and was left unimpressed during his time. Discussing Scott's new role on commentary, he said: "I thought it was a colossal waste of time. But you think you're achieving things." He then finished off by saying "it might be different nowadays."

The Australian star's appointment was no doubt an attempt from Tour bosses to keep the 42-year-old onside amid the LIV threat.

And it seems to have worked, after Scott claimed in November that there has "never been a better time" to be playing on the PGA Tour following its recent changes to the schedule.

He said: "I don't know that there's ever been a better time to be a member of the PGA Tour because all of a sudden there are these 13 elevated events that are at least double the money we've ever played for.”
