Adam Schefter thinks Tom Brady is truly considering retirement for the first time

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady won’t play forever. It seems that’s donning on even Brady at this point in his career. Multiple reports have indicated the greatest quarterback of all time will genuinely consider retiring during the 2022 offseason. Even Brady was noncommittal about playing next year during a postgame press conference.

During an appearance on “The Greg Hill Show,” ESPN insider Adam Schefter explained why he’s not so sure Brady is coming back in 2022.

“Tom Brady very well may come to the decision that he will play again. But, I think this is the first time that I think it’s even really a real decision about whether he might not play again,” Schefter told WEEI.

Brady has said he wanted to play until he’s 45 — and he will turn 45 in August, right around the time the Buccaneers prepare for next season. Does Brady want to play past 45? That’s the question he’ll have to answer this offseason.

“He’s talked about the sacrifice that goes into this — his family time, what he gives up, he’s got other business interests now,” Schefter said. “Does he really need to go out and try and win another Super Bowl, put up more passing yards? He’s got all the records. He’s got everything. I think it’s mentally exhausting, physically draining, all those things. Tom Brady’s a smart guy, when he says I haven’t thought about it and there will be time to think about it, of course, he’s thought about it. He just doesn’t want to talk about it right now, and that’s fair. He deserves that right.”

Brady holds the record for Super Bowls by a player (seven) along with the records for career passing yardage and passing touchdowns. All he can do at this point is extend those records to fend off up-and-comers like quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.
