One name to watch for when it comes to the Jacksonville Jaguars filling their general manager opening is Chicago Bears’ assistant general manager, Ian Cunningham, says ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
On Schefter’s latest podcast episode, he was asked about the Jaguars’ general manager opening. Schefter mentioned that Liam Coen will have a say in who the next GM is and then brought up Cunningham’s name as someone who should be one everyone’s radar when it comes to that opening:
“Here’s a name that we need to have on our radar, I’m not saying he gets the job, but I will say that he’s going to be in contention for the job, the Bears’ assistant general manager Ian Cunningham,” said Schefter.
“He’s going to be a candidate for that Jaguars GM job. Some would say he might be the leading candidate for the Jaguars’ GM job. I don’t know if he’s the leading guy or a guy, but he’s certainly going to be in the mix and a candidate to become the next general manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Watch that name, Ian Cunningham, his time is coming.”
Cunningham has been the Bears’ assistant general manager for the last three seasons and is one of the up and coming contenders in the general manager ranks.
Cunningham has interviewed for various general manager openings in each of the last three offseasons, which includes being a finalist for the Tennessee job in 2023 and this years as well.
He was also a finalist for the Washington Commanders head of football operations job that went to Adam Peters, and reportedly turned down the Arizona job in 2023.
There haven’t been any confirmed interviews for Cunningham or any GM candidates at this time by the Jaguars or any NFL insiders.
Owner Shad Khan recently gave a rough timeline on the upcoming GM search and said that once Coen fills out his coaching staff–the team is currently interviewing offensive and defensive coordinators–they will turn their attention to the GM role.
