Swimming star Adam Peaty has split with his girlfriend of three years Eiri Munro, he announced in an emotional social media post.
The Olympic champion, who shares a two-year-old son George with artist Eiri, took to Instagram to share a photo of the couple with their son as he told his followers the news. Both Adam and Eiri had posted snaps on the platform just days before the split announcement, which showed the family of three relaxing and playing in a swimming pool together.
27-year-old Adam wrote: “Eiri and I have decided to go our separate ways. We have enjoyed a wonderful three years together, 2 of those with our gorgeous son George.

“Our priority has always been to provide the happiest and healthiest home environment for him, and right now that means ending our romantic relationship. I could not ask for a greater mother for George and I am so grateful to Eiri for her amazing support over the last three years.
“Eiri and George, I’m sorry for letting you down. My only interest is for the well-being of our family at this difficult time so I ask that our privacy is respected and I won’t be saying anything further.”
Eiri also took to Instagram to share her own statement on the split in her Instagram Stories. She wrote: “The last three years have been so, so amazing.
“Our little family has experienced so much laughter and love and joy. You guys have been such a significant part of that!” she told her followers.
“This next chapter of my life is surely going to be an incredibly difficult one. I would appreciate that people would refrain from commenting, speculating or messaging. I have shared so much of my life, but for now I’m choosing privacy and I hope that you will all respect that.
“I love and appreciate you all so much and I’m so thankful for all the opportunities you’ve given me. I am going to be taking a break from social media, so goodbye for now,” she closed off as she thanked her followers.
Some fans have made reference to the notorious so-called Strictly Curse, a term coined for the string of celebrities and professional dancers who have split with their partners during or after their appearance on the BBC show. Adam danced in last year’s series of the competition, ultimately finishing in ninth place with pro dance partner Katya Jones.
Eiri and George were seen cheering Adam on at the Commonwealth Games earlier this month as the swimmer bagged gold in the 50m breaststroke. The win came after disappointment for the sportsman when he was beaten in the 100m breaststroke final, and he later apologised for ‘blasé’ remarks he made in the aftermath of the race .
