Adam Lallana wishes he could change one thing about his Liverpool career

Adam Lallana has admitted there is one thing he wishes he could change about his Liverpool career as he prepares to lock horns with his former club this weekend.

The 34-year-old left Anfield at the end of his Reds contract back in the summer of 2020, having helped Liverpool win the Premier League title that season, before he joined Brighton & Hove Albion on a Bosman transfer.

A £25m signing for the Reds in 2014, the midfielder made 178 appearances during six seasons on Merseyside, scoring 22 goals and recording 21 assists. But despite establishing himself as one of Jurgen Klopp's most important players following the German's arrival at Liverpool in October 2015, injuries would ultimately disrupt the second half of Lallana's Anfield career.

He would still leave the club with both Premier League and Champions League winners' medals, while he'd also lift both the FIFA Club World Cup and European Super Cup during his final season with the club.

And while he can't pick between either elite trophy, he conceded he would change one thing about Liverpool's Premier League title win as the Reds ended a 30-year drought to be crowned champions of England.

"I don’t have a preference of the Premier League or Champions League titles, but the Champions League was unbelievable because we got to experience it with the fans," he told Brighton's website in 2021. "I left Liverpool as a Premier League winner, but we did it in an empty stadium – something didn’t feel right about that.

"It doesn’t keep me up at night - I’ve got a winner's medal after all - but it would have been nice to have had the parade and a packed Anfield as it was the first time they had won the Premier League. It was one of those things - Covid changed everyone’s life.

"I definitely had low moments at Liverpool, but the highs far outweigh the downs. I wouldn’t change the experience of any of it and I met some amazing people there.

"We had a lot of success with that team and I will always be grateful to Brendan Rodgers for signing me, before getting the opportunity to work with Jurgen Klopp, which was remarkable. I learned so much from him that will stay with me forever. I was very lucky that I got the opportunity to play for such a fantastic club."
