Danielle Fishel, known for her role as Topanga Lawrence on the popular '90s sitcom 'Boy Meets World,' has shared an update on her health journey. The actress recently announced on her podcast, 'Pod Meets World,' that she has completed her active cancer treatment following a diagnosis of DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ), a form of breast cancer.
After undergoing radiation treatment, Fishel revealed that she did not require surgeries or chemotherapy. She will now begin taking Tamoxifen, a medication aimed at reducing the risk of breast cancer recurrence.
During her treatment, Fishel underwent 15 rounds of whole breast radiation and five rounds of targeted radiation. While she described the process as relatively easy, she is currently experiencing physical side effects such as a severe sunburn, an itchy rash, sleep discomfort, and extreme fatigue.
Despite the challenges, Fishel remains optimistic, stating that her doctors have assured her that she will start feeling better within the next two to three months. To aid in her recovery, she is following her doctors' advice to exercise and stay hydrated to help her body recover from the effects of radiation.
DCIS, the condition Fishel was diagnosed with, is considered the earliest stage of breast cancer and is not typically life-threatening. However, individuals with DCIS have a higher risk of developing invasive breast cancer in the future.
Throughout her career, Fishel has been a beloved figure in the entertainment industry, reprising her role as Topanga in the spinoff series 'Girl Meets World' and balancing her personal life as a wife and mother of two.
We wish Danielle Fishel continued strength and a speedy recovery as she navigates this chapter in her health journey.
