Actress Cynthia Erivo could become youngest ever winner of Hollywood's four largest awards

British actress Cynthia Erivo could become the youngest person in entertainment history to win Hollywood’s four largest awards.

The 33-year-old has been nominated for the award of Best Actress at this year’s Oscars, as well as Best Original Song for the track ‘Stand Up’.

If she wins, she will add the sought after gong to the trifecta of Emmy, Grammy and Tony awards that she previously won for her work on The Colour Purple.

Known as the EGOT, there are just 15 other a-listers that have made it into this renowned fall of fame, such as Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn and John Legend.

Should she win, Cynthia will firmly secure her place as Hollywood royalty.

The London-born actress has been nominated alongside Renee Zellweger, Saoirse Ronan, Scarlett Johansson and Charlize Theron in the Oscar 2020 Best Actress category.

The momentous star-studded evening will take place in Los Angeles next month and Cynthia recently took to social media to share her honour at receiving the nomination.

“Unbelievably grateful, endlessly humbled,” she wrote on Twitter .

Cynthia has been nominated for her powerful depiction of the slave-turned-political-activist Harriet Tubman, in the new biopic Harriet.

Set in the 1800s, her portrayal of the real life heroine has resulted in rave reviews over her performance since the film was released last year.

In a review of the movie, The Mirror recently wrote that Cynthia brought “a new level of fierceness, determination, and soul with her role as Tubman, even using those powerful pipes to translate Harriet’s spirit.”

The actress' journey to Hollywood stardom began with humble beginnings as she grew up in a council house in inner-city London.

Only during her studies in Musical Psychology did Cynthia decide that acting was her true passion, leading the actress to quickly apply to the drama school, RADA.

Despite setbacks with acting roles here in the UK, Cynthia instead opted for the bright lights of Broadway in New York where she landed a role in The Color Purple alongside Dreamgirls actress and singer Jennifer Hudson.

Since then, Cynthia has been a staple of the US acting circuit and has also starred in a supporting role in Widows and the movie Bad Times at the El Royal.

Despite the exciting nomination, Harriet has not received as much attention from UK audiences and failed to receive any nominations at the BAFTAs.

The UK event has been heavily criticised for the lack of non-white and female director nominations for this year’s event.

In protest, Cynthia recently turned down an initiation to perform at net month’s BAFTA awards ceremony.
