Actress Carla Balenda, Known For Roles In Classic Films, Dies

Carla Balenda, a talented actress known for her roles in various films and television shows, has passed away at the age of 98. She starred alongside Dana Andrews and Claude Rains in the RKO Pictures thriller 'Sealed Cargo' and portrayed Mickey Rooney’s girlfriend on the NBC sitcom 'Hey Mulligan'.

Balenda, also known as Sally Bliss, began her acting career at a young age and appeared in a variety of productions. She played a nurse on the syndicated series 'The Adventures of Dr. Fu Manchu' and recurred as Miss Hazlitt on CBS’ 'Lassie'.

In 'Sealed Cargo', Balenda delivered a memorable performance as a woman caught in a dangerous situation with Nazis in the North Atlantic. She considered this role to be one of her favorites. Additionally, she played a significant role as Rooney's girlfriend on 'Hey Mulligan'.

Born in Carthage, New York, Balenda pursued acting after attending Baldwin High School and acting school in Rhode Island. She signed with Columbia Pictures at a young age and appeared in several films before making her mark in Hollywood.

Throughout her career, Balenda worked with notable actors such as Gig Young, Elliott Reid, Marie Windsor, John Derek, and Slim Pickens. She appeared in a range of films and television series, showcasing her versatility as an actress.

After leaving the entertainment industry in the 1960s, Balenda dedicated her time to charitable endeavors, including involvement with The Dolls. She was married twice and is survived by her children and grandchildren.

Carla Balenda's contributions to the world of entertainment will be remembered, and her legacy will live on through her work on screen.
