U.S. actress Anne Heche has died after her life support was turned off, a week after a car crash in Los Angeles left her brain dead.
The Donnie Brasco star's death was announced by her friend Nancy Davis on Instagram and confirmed by her family to The Guardian.
The actress had been hospitalised at the Grossman Burn Centre at West Hills hospital north of Los Angeles after a horror crash on August 5, reports the Daily Mail.
A representative for her loved ones confirmed yesterday that she was brain dead and was only being kept alive on life support so that doctors could save her organs for donation.
The said: "We want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anne's recovery and thank the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses that cared for Anne at the Grossman Burn Centre at West Hills hospital.
"Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne Heche suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition. She is not expected to survive."
Earlier, Heche's ex partner Ellen DeGeneres tweeted her sadness after finding out hat Heche was not expected to survive.
She said: "This is a sad day. I'm sending Anne's children, family and friends all of my love."
