Actor And Singer Beth Peters, Known For 'General Hospital,' Dies

Beth Peters, known for her role on 'General Hospital,' passed away at 92.

Beth Peters, a talented actor and singer known for her recurring role on the popular soap opera 'General Hospital,' passed away on March 14 at the age of 92 in central Florida after a brief illness.

Peters made her mark in the early 1980s with her portrayal of Mrs. Whitaker in eight episodes of 'General Hospital.' Her character, described as motherly and wise, served as a surrogate mother to Laura Spencer, played by Genie Francis, during a pivotal storyline involving young love.

Starting her career as a teenager in coastal New Jersey, Peters ventured into Broadway in 1955, appearing in various productions such as 'Inherit the Wind' and taking on the role of Mrs. Brady in the play's final months.

Throughout her career, Peters graced regional theaters across the country, showcasing her talent in productions like 'Marion the Librarian,' 'Sound of Music,' 'Show Boat,' 'Big River,' and 'Funny Girl.'

Aside from her work on 'General Hospital,' Peters also made appearances on television shows such as 'Mr. Belvedere,' 'Quantum Leap,' 'Hart to Hart,' 'Simon and Simon,' 'Highway to Heaven,' and 'The Waltons.' She also had roles in films like 'Where Love Has Gone,' 'Fitzwilly,' 'Kandyland,' and 'Back to School.'

Peters is survived by her son Sean Williams, step-daughters Barbara Davison and Monica Lange, as well as several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Danon, who was also an actor.

A respected member of various entertainment industry associations, including the Actor's Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild, and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, Peters left a lasting impact on the performing arts community.

In honor of her memory, donations can be made to the Entertainment Community Fund in Peters' name.
