Diablo 4 players agree that constantly having to manage your inventory space is an annoyance, and Activision Blizzard has taken note.
For all the fun laying waste to literal hordes of creatures, monsters and grimdark beasties in Diablo 4 provides, there’s one aspect of Activision Blizzard’s game that is annoying players more than most. The worst part is it’s something that in theory should be easily fixable. It relates to the number of inventory slots available to each character class – mainly in that that there isn’t enough. Fortunately, this is an issue the studio is actively looking into.
Diablo 4 associate game director Joesph Piepora spoke on the issue on the recent live stream where the full details of Diablo 4 Season 1, Season of the Malignant, were revealed. “I’ll say real quickly, we definitely hear everybody about this,” he said in response to a fan question, which you can hear around the 1:39:58 mark of the archived video. “We’re moving really, really quickly on this and we’re trying to provide more space in the future, we’re figuring out how we’re going to get that accomplished.”
Unfortunately, despite Piepora’s words that the Activision Blizzard team is moving quickly, no official date or time period was given as to when the ongoing Diablo 4 storage issues will be resolved. However, it’s clearly an issue its taking seriously, to the extent that Piepora shed at least some light on how a solution was coming, in relation to how gems are handled. Currently each distinct gem takes up one of your 33 available inventory slots, but these will soon move into the materials tab.
33 inventory slots might sound like a lot, but in a game like Diablo 4 where loot tends to drop and throw itself at you extremely quickly, speaking from experience those slots fill up incredibly quickly. Sadly, this issue wasn’t addressed in the recent Diablo 4 update 1.0.4, which was released the same day as the Diablo 4 Developer Update live stream, but we should get an update how expanding the Diablo 4 storage sooner rather than later.
Space, man
So torturous have Diablo 4 players been finding the current inventory space limit on characters, several have taken to Reddit to voice their concerns and frustration. In one thread a user voiced how much they feel “inventory space is severely lacking”, before suggesting potential workarounds like giving players to buy more space using gold. “Having to go back to town to clear my inventory every time I do a dungeon can become a pretty annoying task after a while,” they said.
Another user in the same thread, 1imperia1, took aim at the aforementioned issue of gems taking up an entire slot, too, proposing the introduction of “a 2nd bag for just gems”. Other players suggested that the inventory system in Diablo 4 is at least better than how it was handled in, say, Diablo 2, but it’s clear that mainstream players in particular – who aren’t used to dealing with so much loot so regularly – are finding the experience cumbersome.
