On Sunday evening, an active shooter incident in the downtown area of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, resulted in one person dead and two others injured. The Jacksonville Beach police responded to the situation, with multiple suspected shooters still at large.
Initially, authorities advised everyone to shelter in place as they worked to secure the area. The shelter-in-place order was lifted at 10:54 p.m., but officers continued their investigation at the scene of the shooting. A significant police presence was noted in the Jacksonville Beach area near 2nd Ave. North and 1st St. North.
The downtown district and bar area, as well as the beachfront, were placed on lockdown as the incident expanded into those areas. Eyewitnesses reported seeing multiple ambulances and patrol cars near the scene.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that two individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment. One person was in serious condition, while the other had non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, the third victim succumbed to their injuries.
Fortunately, the two surviving victims are now in stable condition. Reports indicate that one victim was shot in the Sneakers parking lot and was initially in critical condition, while the other two were shot at 2nd Ave. North.
