Georgia State Police are currently responding to an active scene at Apalachee High School in the small community of Winder. Video footage from outside the school reveals the presence of at least five ambulances and a significant police presence. Additionally, a medical helicopter was observed airlifting a patient from the scene.
According to a hospital source, a local hospital is receiving patients with gunshot wounds related to the incident. Special agents from the FBI have also arrived at Apalachee High School to support local law enforcement efforts.
Winder, located approximately an hour outside of Atlanta, has a population of around 18,338 residents as per the 2020 census data from the US Census Bureau. The Barrow County School System, to which the school is affiliated, is the 24th largest school district in the state, serving approximately 15,340 students. Of these students, 1,932 are enrolled at Apalachee High School.
