The incident prompted Choi to direct emergency responders to utilize all available resources to address the situation promptly, as stated in a press release by the interior and safety ministry.
Choi assumed the role of acting president just two days prior, stepping in after the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol and his successor Han Duck-soo by parliament amidst a significant political turmoil in South Korea over recent weeks.
