ACT man in 90s dies from COVID, 475 cases

A man in his 90s has died from COVID-19 in the ACT, as the capital recorded a further 475 new infections.

The man is the 31st person to have died from COVID-19 in the ACT since the pandemic began and is the fifth to die this week.

Case numbers were slightly down in the ACT on Wednesday, with 281 new infections from PCR tests while there were 194 positive rapid antigen test.

While the number of patients in hospital for COVID-19 has decreased from 55 to 54, the number of those in intensive care has risen.

There are now four patients with the virus being treated in intensive care, up from one the day before.

Of the four in intensive care, one of those is on a ventilator.

Vaccination rates have increased, with 57.2 per cent of over-16s in the ACT having received their booster shot.

The latest figures have shown 74.5 per cent of five to 11-year-olds have received their first vaccine dose.

There are now 2365 active cases of COVID-19 in the Canberra community.
