A man in his 70s has become the latest fatality from COVID-19 in the ACT.

The man is the 30th person to die from COVID-19 in Canberra since the start of the pandemic.

It comes as a further 495 infections were detected in the most recent reporting period.

Of those cases, 264 of them were from PCR tests while there were 231 positive cases from rapid antigen tests.

It's the highest number of new cases in the national capital in almost a week.

The number of COVID-19 patients being treated in hospital has declined to 55.

There is one patient being treated in intensive care, who is also on a ventilator.

Vaccination levels continued to rise, with nearly three-quarters of five to 11-year-olds having received their first dose.

The first dose rate in the cohort now stands at 74.4 per cent.

Meanwhile, 56.3 per cent of residents 16 and over have received their booster shot.
