ACT Greens launch largest ever ticket in effort to hold six seats

ACT Greens leader Shane Rattenbury is optimistic all six Greens in the Legislative Assembly can retain their seats despite small margins at the ballot box.

Mr Rattenbury on Saturday announced the final list of 19 candidates who would contest the ACT election for the Greens.

The group is the largest ticket the party has ever fielded in the territory following the party's best ever result in 2020 when six Greens were elected to the Assembly.

"We've got four candidates under 30, including Australia's only gen Z politician, Laura Nuttall, in the seat of Brindabella," Mr Rattenbury said.

"We've got people who work in the community sector. We've got candidates from different multicultural backgrounds and we have got candidates who are living with a disability.

"Our candidate team reflects this city."

Mr Rattenbury said every Canberran had a Green as a local member in the current Assembly, which had given voters a chance to get to know the party.

"I think our members are better known now, of course, than they were four years ago," he said.

"And that gives me real confidence that the community will return them this time. We also know in a Hare-Clark system, there are fine margins and we're certainly not taking anything for granted."

Federal Greens leader Adam Bandt joined candidates and party volunteers in Haig Park on Saturday morning to formally launch the party's campaign.

Greens in government in the ACT could ensure Canberra became the affordable housing capital of Australia, he said.

"Volunteers are out today knocking on doors, having conversations with people about what matters to them," Mr Bandt said.

"And what we've seen from around the country is that Labor and Liberal become more disconnected with people and become more concerned about slinging barbs at each other than actually fighting for what matters for people and making a difference to people's lives.

"The Greens are taking a different approach. The Greens are talking to people. We have a people-powered campaign. We don't take donations from the big corporations. We fight for the community and what we want people to know is that we will fight for people."
