Former Celtic star Chris Sutton has predicted Arsenal will secure a comfortable victory over Manchester United in the Premier League this week. Sutton understands why Man Utd fans are excited about Ruben Amorim, but he does not think the Portuguese can take the fight to Mikel Arteta’s well-drilled Gunners just yet.
Ruben Amorim Looking to Extend Unbeaten Run to Four Games
Manchester United have looked rejuvenated since Erik ten Hag’s dismissal in October. First, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy brought the fun back to the camp, taking them to three wins and a draw in four games in all competitions. Now, new permanent coach Amorim has picked up right where the former Man Utd striker left off, overseeing three unbeaten games in all competitions.
It has been a short but steady climb for Amorim. He started his managerial career with a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town in the Premier League. In the second game, Manchester United claimed a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Europa League. Finally, in their third match under Amorim, the Red Devils cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win over Everton in the Premier League.
This Wednesday (November 4), United will travel to the Emirates Stadium for their meeting with Arsenal, hoping to stretch their unbeaten run to four games in all competitions.
Chris Sutton Backs Arsenal to Claim Comfortable Win Over Manchester United
Predicting the outcome of the Gameweek 14 headliner between Arsenal and Manchester United, Sutton wrote in his BBC column:
“I can understand the excitement about Ruben Amorim from Manchester United fans because he is a hugely charismatic guy who comes across so well in interviews.
“I am pleased for him that he has got off to a decent start, because he is unbeaten after his first three games, but this is the real acid test that will demonstrate where United are at.”
He added:
“We have seen some classic games between these teams down the years, but Arsenal are a long way ahead of United, especially now Odegaard is back – he has taken them to the levels we were expecting from them all season.
“It would be a real eye-opener if United go to Emirates Stadium and get something, but I can’t see it. Arsenal have scored a lot of goals in the past week and that should continue here. They will win, and win well.”
Sutton’s prediction: Arsenal 3-1 Man Utd
Arsenal and Manchester United have locked horns 201 times over the years. United have won 85 games, the Gunners 70, and there have been 46 draws.
