Katie Piper beams as she receives OBE from Princess Anne for services to charity

Katie Piper has received her OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire), after being named in the Queen’s New Year Honours list last month.

The Loose Women presenter, who suffered life-changing burns in an acid attack in 2008, was recognised for services to charity and victims of burns and other disfigurement injuries.

Katie, 38, collected her honour from Anne, Princess Royal at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.

Wear a chic all-white ensemble, the mum-of-two looked super stylish as she proudly posed with her medal outside the castle.

Katie wore her blonde hair tied back and teamed her white suit with a matching scarf as she met the Queen's sister in order to receive the honour.

In March 2008, the TV presenter and activist was viscously attacked with acid by her ex-boyfriend and an accomplice, causing major damage to her face and blindness in one eye.

Katie would go on to undergo pioneering surgery to restore her face and vision after the horrifying attack left her partially blind, with severe scarring to her face, chest, neck, arm and hands.

The inspiring star rose to fame the following year at the age of 24, when she gave up her right to anonymity and made a Channel 4 documentary in 2009 called Katie: My Beautiful Face.

Speaking about her OBE in January, Katie admitted receiving the honour was "one of the happiest times of my life".

"I am so honoured to be recognised on the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list for services to charity and survivors of burns," she wrote on the Katie Piper Foundation website.

"The Katie Piper Foundation has been my life’s work. It’s now into its second decade and I’m very proud to say that we’ve helped and rehabilitated thousands of survivors of burns and people with scars from traumatic incidents, with their physical and mental recovery.

She went on to thank her loved ones and medics, writing: "My doctor and my family were there at the start of my journey. They were my crucial support in the early days when I was still very much recovering.

"They helped me to see that we could turn kind people’s donations and offers of help to me, into hope and action for others."

Katie founded the Katie Piper Foundation a few months after her first ever documentary aired in order to support burns victims going through a similar experience.

Since her first Channel 4 show, the newly-honoured star has become one of the nation's favourite TV personalities.

In addition to appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018, Katie has enjoyed stints presenting on shows such as Loose Women, This Morning, Songs of Praise and Live From Studio Five.

The star married Richard Sutton in 2015 and the happy couple are parents to two daughters; Belle, seven, and Penelope, five.
