A Melbourne man accused of murdering a woman in a city apartment has been remanded in custody.
Xiaozheng Lin, 22, was assisted by a Mandarin interpreter as he appeared in person at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon.
It's alleged he killed a 31-year-old Chinese national on Tuesday and stole items belonging to her.
Lin was on Friday morning charged with murder, robbery and theft following a police appeal.
His lawyer told the court it was the 22-year-old's first time in custody and he had a limited understanding of English.
The Huntingdale man also had an issue with his right leg that needed to be treated, the lawyer said.
Lin, who did not apply for bail, was remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court in May for a committal mention hearing.
The police informant has been given three months to compile a brief of evidence, including DNA and CCTV footage.
