Accountancy firm Azets opens Plymouth office

Azets, the regional accountancy and business advisory firm, has opened a new Plymouth office.

The workspace in Sutton Harbour will house specialists in audit, business advisory, restructuring and insolvency.

The office is being headed up by Laura Pingree, the firm’s regional head of audit, and Duncan Swift, who leads the restructuring and insolvency services team.

Ms Pingree said: “The pandemic has accelerated changes in delivery of accountancy services to clients and Azets, with its extensive technology platforms, is at the forefront.”

The Plymouth-born accountant was educated at Devonport High School and has worked for companies of all sizes following her time at a Big Four firm. Her interest lies in natural resources, energy and renewables, and shipping, according to Azets.

Mr Swift, who was brought up in Devon and educated at Okehampton College, trained as a chartered accountant with a Big Four firm in London where he specialised in restructuring and insolvency before joining Azets in April 2021. From 2019-2020 he was president of R3, the UK trade body for restructuring and insolvency professionals.

Mr Swift has also worked for local companies, including Holmans Ship Repair Yard, Keith Floyd’s Inn and Devon Desserts, and also specialises in farming and food.

He added: “Through deep accountancy expertise allied with market leading technology we’re confident of building a Plymouth team of more than 30 staff within three years, to work alongside our existing teams in Truro, Launceston, Tavistock, Holsworthy and South Molton, and to serve as a springboard to develop our services in Exeter, Barnstaple, Tiverton and Taunton”.

In March, Azets merged two Gloucestershire offices at a new location in the county to accommodate its expanding workforce in the area. The company brought together staff at its Cheltenham and Gloucester offices at its new base Epsilon House in Gloucester Business Park, Brockworth.
