Nine Network journalist Seb Costello will fight two assault charges after a dispute involving a man and woman in Melbourne, a court has heard.

The reporter with A Current Affair appeared by video link in Melbourne's Neighbourhood Justice Centre on Wednesday for a brief hearing.

Costello, son of Nine chairman Peter Costello, has been charged on summons with two unlawful assault offences following a dispute in Richmond on February 11 this year.

The court heard Costello, 35, planned to contest both charges and he will next face court on November 3.

Victoria Police previously said a 23-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were involved in the incident and no one was injured.
