Chelsea owner Todd Boehly got an on-the-job lesson surrounding the art of becoming a sporting director in the footballing world over the summer.
With the key departures of Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech, the part-LA Dodgers owner took it upon himself to conduct all transfer business in the £270million rebuild conducted and the first impressions are he didn't do too much of a bad job with big decisions made.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hit the ground running with his two goals netted in his last two appearances. Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella are still finding their feet whilst Wesley Fofana was adapting but will now face a challenge to return from yet another injury after leaving Stamford Bridge on crutches and in a knee-brace.
Raheem Sterling had carried the Chelsea attack during Thomas Tuchel's final days and on the whole, the significant amount of investment is starting to pay its fruits alongside the brave decision to appoint the exciting Graham Potter.

Be under no illusion though that despite this good summer in which Boehly has made many friends across the European and English landscape, Roman Abramovich's successor still need to take a step back and appoint a footballing director as soon as possible.
football.london understands that Chelsea are holding more talks with candidates following the latest Christoph Freund blow which saw attention shift once more.
Even with a new director coming in, this will not seemingly stop Boehly from making friends in the boardroom and this will help the new director with certain negotiations with talents like Rafael Leao, who in flashes, showed what he could bring to Chelsea in the 3-0 defeat for his side.
Post-match though, AC Milan posted a photo on their website of Boehly exchanging trophies with a certain director. It's a picture that has Chelsea fans generating many theories.
