‘Absurd' Leeds United incident criticised ahead of Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest will face a Leeds United side still smarting from a sense of injustice on Monday night and BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks believes Jesse Marsch’s side have just cause.

Leeds head coach Marsch was dismissed by referee Robert Jones during his side’s 5-2 Premier League defeat to Brentford at the weekend, with the decision not to award a penalty against the Bees' Aaron Hickey proving the tipping point.

An incensed Marsch was sent to the stands after remonstrating with officials following Hickey’s challenge on Crysencio Summerville which sent the attacker tumbling in the penalty area.

Neither the referee of VAR looked at the incident and Crooks felt it wasn’t the only decision that was harsh on the Whites, also highlighting the award of a first-half penalty to Ivan Toney.

He told the BBC: "The penalty given for the tackle on Toney was dubious but there was nothing remotely doubtful about the way the Brentford striker put away his hat-trick against Leeds. Each goal was brilliantly taken but his third was quite special.

"As for the decision by referee Robert Jones not to give Leeds a penalty for the tackle on Crysencio Summerville, it seemed absurd. Hardly surprising Leeds manager Jesse Marsch completely lost it."
