'Absolute tragedy' as father-of-three, 30s, killed in farm accident in Meath

A young father-of-three has died tragically following an accident on a farm in Meath yesterday.

It is understood the man, aged in his 30s, was fatally injured when trying to remove an obstruction from a grass baler.

The incident took place on a farm in Wilkinstown, in the Castletown area, at around 12.30pm on Tuesday.

A source said: "People the community are in shock, he was a good friend of mine and a lovely man, this is a small enough area where everyone knows each other and the news is just sinking in at the moment.

"The full details of what happened are not clear yet but it appears he ran into difficulty when he was trying to clear a baler, it is an absolute tragedy."

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí responded to reports of a workplace accident in the Castletown area of Meath shortly after 12.30pm yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, 20th June 2023.

"A man aged in his 30s suffered fatal injuries.

"The HSA and local coroner have been notified."
