'Absolute madness!' - Man City fans react as they win the Premier League the hard way - again

Manchester City fans breathed a huge sigh of relief as the Blues secured the Premier League title in the most dramatic of circumstances against Aston Villa.

The Blues headed into the final day knowing a win would secure them another Premier League title, with Liverpool sitting just one point behind them ahead of kick-off. And things got off to the perfect start for them as the Reds fell behind to an early Pedro Neto goal for Wolves, only for Sadio Mane to draw them level.

And the nerves really began to kick in before half-time when City fell behind to Matty Cash’s goal. As things stood at the break, the Blues were still in a position to lift the title at the Etihad.

Their hopes looked to be on the racks midway through the second half when Philippe Coutinho made it 2-0 to the visitors, leaving Liverpool potentially just one goal away from snatching the title. At that point, it looked as though City would have to rely on a favour from Wolves.

But within the space of five remarkable minutes, City had the title back in their grasp. Ilkay Gundogan restored some hope as he halved the deficit before Rodri brought the hosts back level just a couple of minutes later.

And it wasn’t too long before the comeback was complete, with Gundogan on the mark again to put the Blues on the verge of victory. Liverpool would end up claiming a 3-1 victory after goals from Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, but it wouldn’t matter as City held on.

City’s victory sees them secure back-to-back titles, as well as their fifth Premier League crown since 2012. They once again did it in dramatic circumstances, invoking memories of Sergio Aguero’s winner a decade ago, as well as the title win over Liverpool in 2019.
