'Absolute lad': Tartan Army pose with John Swinney as he heads to Euros

THE First Minister has been pictured smiling with members of the Tartan Army as he heads to Scotland's opening match against Germany in the Euros.

Despite being in the midst of a General Election, John Swinney has paused campaigning to cheer on Steve Clarke's men in Munich.

A picture posted on Facebook shows Swinney with members of the Tartan Army on the plane to Germany.

The caption reads: "John Swinney onroute to Munich. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇩🇪🙌 Absolute lad!!! #SNP

Swinney isn't the only senior member of his party to be taking time out of campaigning to head to Germany.

The SNP's Westminster leader Stephen Flynn has also headed off to Munich, although he was forced to cancel his plans to attend all three group games due to the General Election.  He posted on X/Twitter last night: "Next stop, Munich".

Meanwhile, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar cancelled his plans to attend Scotland's opening game.

He said he would be devoting his time to campaigning instead.

“Like thousands of fans, I was counting down the days to watch our team play in the Euros and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t gutted to have to cancel,” he added.

“When it comes to the General Election, I’m certainly not planning to be a spectator.

“I’ll be playing the match of my life over the next few weeks trying to boot these rotten Tories out of Westminster.”
