Abraham Ancer has called for change at LIV Golf despite earning over £16 million during his time at the controversial golf organisation.
Abraham Ancer Hopes For Change At LIV Golf Despite Earning Almost $20 Million
The Mexican-American golf star has enjoyed a profitable spell with LIV Golf since joining in 2022 but has revealed his hopes over competing at the four golf majors.
After multiple years with the PGA Tour, Ancer decided to join LIV Golf despite winning the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational a year prior.
Being a member of the Fireballs GC team, which is guided by Sergio Garcia, Ancer has picked up a huge financial gain due to move to LIV.
Since 2022, Ancer has made a reported £16.4m, with £3.2m of this coming in prize money from his singular LIV Golf tournament triumph in Hong Kong.
This wealth would appear to be enough for the golf star, but he revealed that LIV Golf stars should be able to compete in golf majors outside of the organisation.
Currently, LIV Golf stars have to adhere to certain criteria if they want to play in PGA Tour events as a merging agreement is yet to be agreed.
In June 2023, the two organisations confirmed that a framework agreement was in the works but this has failed to be completed.
Ancer said (Via Golf Monthly): “We will find out if anything changes regarding Major exemptions. Do we want to play the majors? Of course we do.
“So, hopefully something happens and there’s a bit of a path. I feel like there’s a bunch of LIV players who have a chance to win a major, but we’ll see what happens.
“We definitely saw it this past year and you see the hunger in us wanting to play in Majors. It’s something that I don’t really try and think about.
“I’m happy with my decision to join LIV and I knew that may have been a possibility of not playing Majors even though I thought there may have been some type of path created some time ago, but it is what it is. So we’ll see what we’ve got and we’ll keep going.”
Ancer is one of the underdogs on UK betting sites for the upcoming LIV Golf Riyadh tournament but will be hoping to add another title to his name.
