Aberfeldy community cinema The Birks looking forward to giving a platform to live fiddle group Fara

A fiddle folk group currently touring Scotland will visit Aberfeldy for a gig next week.

Scotland on Tour, the exciting initiative to support the recovery of the live music industry, brings the group Fara to The Birks Cinema in Aberfeldy on Friday, September 9 at 8.30pm.

Fiddle-led folk group Fara draw inspiration from the traditional Orcadian music they grew up with while making it exciting and relevant for a younger audience.

Formed in 2014, Fara is composed of three childhood friends, Jeana Leslie, Catriona Price and Kristan Harvey on fiddle, and newest member Rory Matheson on piano.

Catriona said: “We’re delighted to be performing at The Birks Cinema in Aberfeldy and we can’t wait to make some memories with the community there.”

Giles Conisbee, chief executive of The Birks Cinema, said: “This is an incredible opportunity for people in the communities we serve throughout remote and rural Perthshire to see some of the best Scottish musical talent. We are very excited to open our auditorium to live music performances again and to host this special band.”

Aberfeldy has another great trad musician coming in October. Mairi Campbel is in concert at The Birks on October 5 at 8pm.

In a year-long project, Scotland on Tour will support the creation of hundreds of concerts and performances at arts centres, town halls and community venues across Scotland with more than 120 artists set to perform at more than 100 venues.

Culture Minister Neil Gray said: “We’re delighted to support the live music industry with £750,000 to fund the year-long Scotland on Tour initiative to boost the sector’s post-Covid recovery.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for performers and promoters to get back in front of live audiences and for people to back our creative communities by supporting the hundreds of gigs that will take place in venues right across Scotland.”
