Aberdeen transfer state of play on Luis Lopes, Connor Ronan, Jamie McGrath and Lewis Ferguson

It has been a pretty busy summer for Aberdeen so far, but there is more business to be done.

Jim Goodwin is hoping to bring 'two or three more' recruits to the Granite City before the transfer window slams shut. And with the pending departure of Lewis Ferguson, the Dons will enjoy yet another financial boost this summer that could make the signing game a little bit easier.

Attention has turned to frontline recruits with Benfica striker Luis Lopes reaching the closing stages of a deal that will see him join the Pittodrie side ahead of the upcoming campaign. And the Dons boss is also looking to reunite two players that can help bolster his squad this summer. Former St Mirren stars Jamie McGrath and Connor Ronan are on Aberdeen's radar, with both possibly making the move back north of the border. Record Sport have detailed the Aberdeen transfer latest as it stands.

Luis Lopes

Aberdeen are closing in on a deal for Benfica striker Luis Lopes as Jim Goodwin aims to complete his seventh singing of the summer. The Pittodrie side are understood to have agreed terms on a deal, with final details being discussed to complete his move to the Scottish Premiership.

Lopes has been part of the Portuguese giants' B team for the last two years, netting 11 goals in 42 outings. The 22-year-old is under contract with Benfica until 2025 but the club are prepared to part ways with the forward and the Dons see him as an idea target to fill their centre-forward void.

Connor Ronan

After spending the 2021/22 season on loan at St Mirren, Connor Ronan caught the eye of a couple of clubs in Scotland. Aberdeen are keen to snap up the Wolves midfielder ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland U21 international enjoyed a successful spell in Paisley, making 30 appearances and scoring eight goals across all competitions. He went on to win St Mirren's Player of the Season award and has since the subject of talks up in Aberdeen.

The Dons boss worked with his fellow countryman at the Saints before he made the move to Aberdeen in February. But Jim Goodwin's side are not the only interested party as Hearts hope they can secure his services. Ronan returned to pre season training with Wolves at the end of last month despite rumours linking him with a return north of the border.

Jamie McGrath

Jim Goodwin is keen to reunite with another of his ex-players, Jamie McGrath. The 25-year-old has struggled for regular minutes since moving to Wigan Athletic from St Mirren in January.

McGrath penned a two and half year with the English League One side but has appeared just four times for their first team since arriving. The attacking midfielder enjoyed a successful spell at St Mirren under Goodwin, appearing 60 times for the Paisley club during his two years in Paisley. And now the Republic of Ireland international has been linked with a move to join the Dons on loan ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Lewis Ferguson

Lewis Ferguson is set to depart the Dons for Bologna as looks likely to become the latest Scot to try his luck in Serie A. The Scotland international has been on the radar of a number of clubs - including Millwall, Lecce and Cagliari - in recent months.

And now he is closing in on a bumper £3million switch to the Italian side after a fee was agreed between the clubs. His move will see Aberdeen secure a hefty sum for a second time this summer after Calvin Ramsay departed to join Liverpool for £6.5million.

Jim Goodwin would have loved to have retained a key man but the Dons have stayed firm in holding out for £3million for a player who has two years remaining on his deal in the Granite City. The incoming cash could prove key for Goodwin as he rebuilds his squad after a disappointing campaign last time out.
