Aberdeen transfer state of play as Shayden Morris transfer nears and Connor Ronan Wolves decision looms

Aberdeen have turned their attentions back to Shayden Morris after the disappointment of losing out on Jamie McGrath. The Dons suffered a transfer dent when the Irishman opted to sign for Dundee United on loan.

Dave Cormack insists Wigan were wanting too much in terms of wages but there is no reason for Aberdeen supporters to become despondent just yet. Jim Goodwin has already signed nine new players – and he isn’t done there. Record Sport can confirm Fleetwood's Morris is back on the radar to give Goodwin’s side more width and attacking options. And he is unlikely to be the only one in the door as Cormack teased on Twitter the other night.

So what is Aberdeen’s transfer state of play? Where are the club with the deal for Morris, who is Scott Brown’s player in England’s lower leagues? Here’s the latest on him, Conor Ronan and perhaps a surprise or two.

Connor Ronan

Jamie McGrath's loan move to Dundee United paves the way for the Dons to turn their attention to Connor Ronan whose Wolves future still hangs in the balance. The deadline for the English Premier League club to submit their 25 man squad for the season is looming and despite Ronan joining the pre-season tour of Portugal and Spain, boss Bruno Lage still hasn’t made his decision on where the former St Mirren loan future will lie.

Ronan did however state that he would love to remain at the Midlands club in the long term but admits another loan move might be required if he isn’t going to be guaranteed regular game time. Don’t rule this one out.

Hayden Morris

Aberdeen had two bids rejected for the 20-year-old last month but Goodwin confirmed the transfer wasn’t near. However things now seem to have accelerated and Morris is set to sign for the Dons this week and could be in line to face St Mirren on Saturday.

Goodwin has admitted the £500k rated Fleetwood winger is on the Dons radar and with Connor McLennan's minutes being sparse during so far this campaign, Morris could be a ready made replacement as a wide option. The player made 26 appearances for Fleetwood last season and only has one year left on his contract.

David Bates

It remains to be seen whether Bates will remain in the Granite City after the summer window slams shut. The former Rangers defender looked a cert to seal a £200k move to Legia Warsaw until the Polish outfit pulled out of the deal at the last minute.

Bates has also been credited with interest from a number of English League One clubs and was left out of the Aberdeen squad for the trip to Celtic Park on Sunday. Ross McCrorie was moved from midfield to defence to compensate for Liam Scales being unable to feature against his parent club rather than play Bates - who was first choice under Stephen Glass last season.

The Dons need defensive cover with Jack Milne the only other option so if Bates isn't in the manager's plans - another centre back will likely be a high priority for Goodwin and the Pittodrie recruitment team.
