Aberdeen stars 'can't trust' Scott Brown as former Dons player makes dressing room claim

Former Aberdeen star Theo ten Caat insists putting Scott Brown on his coaching staff was Stephen Glass' "biggest mistake".

The Dutchman claims other players "can't trust" the veteran midfielder in the dressing room - and cited his own experience at Pittodrie.

He spent three years with the Dons between 1991 and 1994 and worked under boss Willie Miller and assistant Roy Aitken, who acted as player-assistant.

Ten Caat insists it's a dynamic that didn't work for him back then and he reckons it's a similar story in 2022 following Glass' sacking on Sunday.

He wrote, in rather unique style, on Twitter: "#StephenGlass out #aberdeenfc. Biggest mistake he made #Appointment #friend #celtic #assistant #Manager and #player #scottbrown. Same at my time at #aberdeenfc #williemiller friend #royaitken #player #assistantmanager #friendship. Doesn't feel good #dressingroom tell you that."

Former Celtic captain Brown has retained his place in the coaching setup as the club assembled an interim management team until a permanent successor to Glass is found.

Barry Robson has taken the role as caretaker boss and will be joined by Brown, Neil Simpson, Scott Anderson.

Ten Caat was asked by a fan whether players during his stint "didn't like" having a player-assistant as part of the setup.

And he replied: "No, he's in the management, talking about his dressing room colleagues, and influence, deciding who to play and how to play. I would never allow that. You cant trust him, you cant make jokes about the manager and freely take about training sessions and games. Impossible situation"

Glass leaves Aberdeen ninth in the Premiership, with the tipping point in his tenure proving to be Saturday's Scottish Cup elimination at the hands of Motherwell.
