Aberdeen's injury dilemma: Molloy undergoes surgery, Sokler faces long recovery

Aberdeen have confirmed the news that two key players will be sidelined for a significant period.

Gavin Molloy has sustained a shoulder injury and has been advised by medical specialists that surgery is necessary.

Following the operation, the centre-back will begin an intensive rehabilitation program, with a return to action unlikely before May.

Meanwhile, forward Ester Sokler has been ruled out for at least eight weeks after suffering a hamstring injury.

The Pittodrie club say they will monitor his progress as he undergoes recovery in the coming months.

These injuries represent a challenging period for Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin, with both players expected to be missed during their recovery spells.

Aberdeen are without a win since November 9, a dismal run spanning ten Scottish Premiership matches.

Acknowledging the double blow, Thelin said: “It’s clearly a big disappointment for us to lose both Gavin and Ester for extended time periods but our medical team will provide excellent guidance and rehabilitation for both players in the next few months to help get them back to fitness as soon as possible.

“We will continue to work to find solutions to help ensure the squad remains competitive and everyone at the Club wishes them both a speedy recovery.”

Striker Pape Gueye has been a long-term absentee, while first choice goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov and squad players Vicente Besuijen and Jack Milne remain out.
