Aberdeen are confident about signing Sunderland defender Bailey Wright on loan. The Dons are fifth in the Scottish Premiership and manager Jim Goodwin is aiming to bolster his backline before the transfer window slams shut, according to the Daily Record.
Wright - who only signed a two-year contract last summer - was integral to the Black Cats’ promotion-winning campaign in 2021-22 but has settled for a bit-part role this season. Tony Mowbray’s preference to play a back three, with Luke O’Nien as a defender, has restricted him to just six league starts this season.
The key to any deal could be how the Sunderland manager’s brother, Darren, is head of recruitment at Aberdeen. Any move is not to be expected before this weekend’s colossal clash against Middlesbrough.

A spicy Wear-Tees derby on Sunday sees the Black Cats face a Boro side sitting fourth in the division. Throw in the Mowbray side story and the fixture has all the making of a classic encounter.
Despite falling down the pecking order and being tipped for a move, Wright spoke recently about his ambitions at the Stadium of Light. He said: “I think the momentum from last season and wanting to finish as high up the table as possible has continued for us this season.
"For sure, it is a stronger division but we back ourselves. We are still inexperienced as a squad but, with inexperience, comes a lot of excitement.
"I think we've got a lot of potential in the squad and in the team to keep on developing and progressing, which is massively important. We're past the halfway mark of the season and we are in a good position.”
