Aberdeen out to paint Hampden red as Dave Cormack joins fan display drive vs Celtic

Aberdeen supporters are rallying together in a bid to create the “best ever” fan display in the club’s history ahead of next month’s Scottish Cup final against Celtic.

The May 24 clash at Hampden Park promises to be a memorable showpiece, with the Dons set to make their first Scottish Cup final appearance since 2017 - when they suffered last-gasp heartbreak at the hands of the same opposition.

While Brendan Rodgers’ treble-chasing Celtic cruised past St Johnstone in their semi-final, Aberdeen needed extra-time and nerves of steel to edge out Hearts in a dramatic encounter at the national stadium.

Now, with the countdown to the final firmly underway, fan group Ultras Aberdeen are leading the charge to transform Hampden into a red-hot fortress of colour and noise.

The group has launched a GoFundMe campaign aiming to raise £10,000 to help bring their ambitious plans to life - and they’ve already received a major boost with a generous £1,000 donation from club chairman Dave Cormack.

“We’re fundraising for a display for the Scottish Cup final on May 24 at Hampden, which we want to be the best ever produced by an Aberdeen group and to inspire the team to victory,” the fan group said in a statement.

“Every single donation of any size is massively appreciated and will help to fund the display.”

Ultras Aberdeen have confirmed they are in contact with Hampden Park officials as they await final confirmation on what display materials will be permitted - details that will ultimately shape the final design.

While the initial fundraising target is set at £10,000, the group says this figure may rise depending on what is allowed within the stadium. Any leftover funds will go towards future displays at Pittodrie.

In addition to donations, fans can also get involved by purchasing limited edition T-shirts, which will also help Ultras Aberdeen deliver the best spectacle possible.

The merchandise ties in with their matchday campaign called #AllInRedAtHampden - an initiative designed to unite the Red Army and create a sea of red in the stands as Jimmy Thelin’s side look to defy the odds.

With the stakes sky-high and silverware on the line, Aberdeen fans are doing everything they can to make their voices - and colours - heard when they return to the national stadium to try and end their 35-year wait for a Scottish Cup triumph.
