Aberdeen group makes appeal for pitches as 100,000 indy newspaper project gets under way

Aberdeen Independence Movement co-chair and councillor Fatima Joji is inviting people to send in their pitches

AN Aberdeen group advancing the Yes cause is appealing for contributors for a collaboration with The National that will see 100,000 special-edition newspapers delivered.

Aberdeen Independence Movement (AIM) will be producing a 12-page independence special, to be delivered across the Grampian area – with a focus on local contributors.

The purpose of the edition will be to convert more voters to independence by focusing on issues relevant to the area.

AIM is now open to article pitches for the supplement.

If you’re familiar or from the area and have relevant expertise, you can send your pitches to AIM co-chair and councillor Fatima Joji via fatima.joji@yahoo.co.uk – and in the process, help to produce a 12-pager that will win fresh votes for freeing Scotland from Westminster.

Joji said: “After observing the demand for localism in the pro-independence campaign, we are delighted to commit all our resources responding to this demand, focusing on issues that are unique to our area, and hearing the viewpoints of our diverse locals which risk being drowned out at national level.

“We are committed to ensuring our voices and concerns are not left behind, bringing more people with us.

“This is why we are delighted to launch a project like the AIM paper, supported by the National, which will see us promote local voices speaking on local issues under the topic of achieving independence for Scotland.

“We hope this project will be effective in its informative approach, helping locals on their journey to a Yes vote.”

The National will help to produce the newspaper and it will be distributed by AIM volunteers.

National deputy editor Stewart Ward said: “We’ll be working with AIM to produce a really engaging edition making the case for independence.

“With our one-million-paper project last year and our 16-page supplement for Manniefest, we’re so excited to have Yes groups working with us to advance the cause in this way.

“We’re excited to see the pitches people come up with for this project.”
