Aberdeen fans have been slammed for unveiling a sick banner during their 4-1 defeat to Rangers.
The Dons took the lead at Ibrox through Connor Barron, but the hosts turned the game on its head before half-time thanks to Antonio Colak’s equaliser before John Lundstram made it 2-1 in first half stoppage time.
Gio van Bronckhorst was under pressure going into the Premiership clash after a poor run of form domestically and in Europe. But his players eased it a little with a stellar second half display that Jim Goodwin’s men couldn’t live with. Captain James Tavernier headed them 3-1 up before getting the chance to net his second from the spot after a VAR awarded handball. But the right back’s spot-kick came back off the left-hand post. Alfredo Morelos thought he’d made it 4-1, but a VAR check for offside cut short his celebrations. He was forced to wait again after tapping in a deflected Fashion Sakala cross, but this time the officials at Clydesdale House okayed the goal.
It was a bad day at the office all round for the Pittodrie club as the travelling Red Army have come under fire after displaying an offensive homemade banner in the away end. It read “Kill All H**s” and was snapped from above the travelling contingent in the corner of Ibrox. Responses to the image on social media called for the Scottish FA to take action. One read: "A disgraceful banner from a section of the Aberdeen away supporters. Not acceptable at all. Hope the SFA come down on them like a ton of bricks for that."
Another added: "Just the SFA? That banner is a hate crime & a sectarian offence as it's clearly being aimed at a certain group. Arrests should be made and condemnation from all for this. It’s not the first time supporters have incurred the wrath of the authorities for banners displayed this season. Celtic fans were criticised for an anti-monarchy banner on show before their 2-0 defeat to St Mirren. Two others that were unfurled during a Champions League Group F clash against Shakhtar Donetsk in Poland were viewed dimly. Those resulted in a £13,169 fine fro UEFA.
