Aberdeen continued their great start to the season with comfortable 2-0 win over Kilmarnock at Pittodrie.
It sees the Reds go eight wins from eight domestically and have their best start to a season since 2017/18.
Kilmarnock who has had European football to deal with at the beginning of the season struggled to match the pace of Aberdeen showing that fatigue could be playing a part on Derek McInnes’ side.
Pape shines in the Air
The Senegalese striker has certainly stepped up in recent weeks with rumours and the eventual departure of Bojan Miovski. After getting his first league goal against St Mirren he continued to impress.
Following a well-worked play down the left-hand side with Jamie McGrath and Jack MacKenzie, Graeme Shinnie whipped an enticing ball into the back post which Pape Guèye rose highest to give the Dons the lead.
In the second half, after Pape made a great take on into the box to win a corner, he made sure to make the most of it as McGrath assist him once again for two league games in a row for a glancing header to get his second and double the lead.
That’s 3 goals in his last 2 starts for the club which will certainly impress boss Jimmy Thelin.
Lyons sees red after reckless challenge
Following good pressure from Kilmarnock after coming out for the second half, Aberdeen retook control and after a 50/50 challenge which saw Sokler get the ball first while Brad Lyons went flying in, the ref called for a foul and a yellow card.
Aberdeen players were initially furious as a good counterattack opportunity was made and no advantage given.
However, VAR intervened and after a quick check at the monitor, referee Matthew MacDermid overturned his decision to a straight red.
A warm Pittodrie welcome for Nisbet
In the 78th minute, goal scorer Pape Guèye was subbed off and replaced by Millwall loanee Kevin Nisbet.
Pittodrie was quick to welcome Nisbet and made sure he knew about it as the new number 9 looks to continue what he started in Scottish football.
However, with good performances from Pape today and two or three others fighting it out for the starting role, it gives Jimmy Thelin a good headache which many at the club will be happy about.
