Abdul Qadir dead: Former Pakistan leg-spinner dies aged 63

Pakistan's Cricket Board have confirmed the death of celebrated former leg-spinner Abdul Qadir at the age of 63.

Qadir, who took 236 wickets at an average 32.80 in 67 Tests, with a best of nine for 56 against England, was a vital part of Pakistan's successful sides in the 1980s.

He also snared 132 scalps at 26.16 in 104 one-day internationals for his country.

The PCB tweeted: "PCB is shocked at the news of 'maestro' Abdul Qadir's passing and has offered its deepest condolences to his family and friends."

Qadir's former team-mate Wasim Akram paid tribute.

He tweeted: "They called him the magician for many reasons but when he looked me in the eyes & told me I was going to play for Pakistan for the next 20 years, I believed him.

"A Magician, absolutely. A leg spinner & a trailblazer of his time. You will be missed Abdul Qadir but never forgotten."
