ABC has officially renewed its popular drama series, The Rookie, for a seventh season set to air in 2024-25. The show, which stars Nathan Fillion, has garnered a loyal fan base and continues to attract decent-sized audiences for the network.
The Rookie, originally named for Fillion's character John Nolan being the oldest rookie in the Los Angeles Police Department, has evolved over its six seasons. Despite Nolan shedding his rookie status, the character's life experience, determination, and humor have endeared him to viewers as he navigates the challenges of working alongside much younger rookies.
In addition to Fillion, the series features a talented ensemble cast including Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, Jenna Dewan, Shawn Ashmore, Tru Valentino, and Lisseth Chavez.
The show's season six premiere on Feb. 20 drew in an impressive 11.92 million viewers over five weeks of cross-platform viewing, marking its best performance since its early episodes in 2018. With streaming and delayed viewing factored in, the premiere's total viewership exceeded 16 million, and the adults 18-49 rating saw a significant increase.
The Rookie is a co-production between Lionsgate Television and ABC Signature, with Alexi Hawley serving as the creator and executive producer alongside Mark Gordon, Michelle Chapman, Brynn Malone, Bill Norcross, and Jon Steinberg.
The series joins other successful ABC shows like 9-1-1, Grey's Anatomy, and Will Trent, as well as the comedy Abbott Elementary, in securing a spot on the network's schedule for the upcoming season.
Fans can look forward to more thrilling episodes as The Rookie continues to captivate audiences with its engaging storytelling and compelling characters.
