ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus eyeing Liverpool Eurovision 2023 visit to see home of his idols

ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus has plans to visit Liverpool for the Eurovision Song Contest.

The competition has helped many global superstars flourish, including Celine Dion and Olivia Newton-John - but none more so than the Swedish pop quartet Abba. The group skyrocketed to success with their smash-hit Waterloo in 1974, winning the competition - and the rest is history.

The band has recently gone on tour again in a holographic form. Abba's Bjorn Ulvaeus spoke candidly on BBC Radio 4's Today, on which the chart-topper was serving as guest editor, about all things Eurovision, including potentially popping to Liverpool to see the 2023 show which the city is hosting in May.

Bjorn said he may attend the contest as he wants to see the Cavern Club, where his "idols" the Beatles played. He said: "My idols the Beatles, come from there, which is why I am thinking maybe I should go to see the finals... and I've never been to Liverpool.

"To see the Cavern where the Beatles appeared. They were the reason why Benny Andersson and I started writing music. Before the Beatles, songwriters were kind of anonymous but suddenly there were these guys who were not only the artist but they wrote their own songs."

The contest lands in Liverpool in May after the UK was announced as the adoptive host on behalf of last year's winners, Ukraine.
