Abba have distanced themselves from claim that Boris Johnson played their hits at a party.
The Swedish pop superstars, who are up for a Brit Award this evening, decided to comment about claims the controversial Downing Street parties played their music.
It was alleged that Boris's wife Carrie Johnson hosted a Winner Takes It All party at their 10 Downing Street flat after Dominic Cumming's resignation on November 13, 2020.
And Abba music was said to be blasting out from within, according to aides.
Abba's Benny Andersson told PA: "You can’t call it an Abba party. It is a Johnson party where they happened to play some Abba music. It is not an Abba party."
He added: "You see how he wriggles himself out of this." referring to Boris.
Bjorn Ulvaeus also said: "I mean, wow. Did they only play Abba music? Are you kidding? Of course they played other music as well."
A source had told the Mail On Sunday: "There was the sound of lots of banging and dancing and drinking, and a number of Abba tracks – including a triumphalist Winner Takes It All."
However a spokesperson for Mrs Johnson, insisted the claims of partying on that date are 'totally untrue'
The Metropolitan Police could now investigate the Abba party as part of their investigation.
Abba meantime have received a nomination at the Brit Awards for best international group.
The hitmakers - who also feature singers Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – announced their return in November with a new album and virtual stage show featuring Abbatars – both titled Voyage.
Their recent album went to number one in more than a dozen countries including the UK.
