Abandoned estate dubbed Scotland's 'Chernobyl' to be demolished

AN abandoned Scottish housing estate dubbed as being the UK's "Chernobyl" is set to be demolished.

Derelict Clune Park in Port Glasgow has been virtually empty for years and pictures show it resembling something from a post-apocalyptic film.

Built in 1905, the area is made up of 430 flats in rotting tenement buildings as well as a rundown church which is covered in graffiti and litter.

(Image: SWNS) The estate was abandoned over two decades ago in 1997 and is now a ghost town.

Since being left to rot, it has become a hot spot for urban explorers keen to take a look around the area.

Now, it has been announced demolition contractors are expected on the site within days.

They will demolish a third of the buildings in the estate.
